My favorite online fur suppliers!

Price range: $20–100 per meter + shipping

Howl Fabric is run by furries for furries, with rare fur colour finds. Big Z Fabric has a great variety in short/medium/long with hard-to-beat prices. Fursuit Supplies does exactly what the name suggests. Mohair Bear Making Supplies has interesting, often expensive, very high-quality furs — you can also get fur here in very small pieces. CRs Crafts has some good finds for natural looking and feeling furs. Fabric Empire has an interesting variety of furs with good prices too.

And of course, searching deep deeeep down into Google/Google Images can help with finding hard-to-get fur colours. Even eBay or Etsy will surprise you at times.

Other supplies

• Sewing thread (60s Bonded Nylon, Tex 45) — $10–20
• Zippers ($5–10), webbing ($2–5 per meter) and fabric ($5–20 per meter) — all probably at your local craft shop
• Stuffing ($2–10) and foam ($40–100 per double bed size) — I get mine from all-purpose stores like The Warehouse (NZ/Aus) or Walmart (USA). I buy pillows for stuffing and 1″ topper mattresses for foam.
• "Mochi Stuffing" — a super soft fluffy stuffing for paw pads, I get it from AliExpress

Minky, polar fleece & lining fabric

For your handpaws, found at your local craft/fabric shop for around $10–30 per meter. A few online shops for minky fabrics:

The handpaw lining was custom ordered from SpoonFlower, Sport Lycra® at $37.80 per yard + shipping — highly recommended! I also use this fun custom fabric in the head and other parts later on.

Foam & feet supplies

• EVA 1cm thick foam ($10–20 for a 4-pack)
• One inch soft foam ($30–80), the kind I use is called a topper mattress
• EVA "softer foam" like a camping mat ($10–20) and masking tape ($2–5) — from all-purpose stores like The Warehouse (NZ/Aus) or Walmart/Hobby Lobby (USA)

Magnets I buy from Amazon/eBay or Trade Me (NZ site), and I print the magnet holders myself — download the files below, or order pre-made from FuzzButtFursuits, who also sell matching magnets.

• Duct tape ($20–60)
• Good quality tights ($20–50)
• One inch soft foam ($30–50), the kind I use is called a topper mattress
• Thin black stretchy material ($20–30) from a fabric shop

The rest of the items I get from all-purpose stores like The Warehouse (NZ/Aus) or Walmart/Hobby Lobby (USA).

• Sewing machine and overlocker — optional, but definitely makes the job easier and tidier. You could hand sew everything, just give yourself less seam allowance if you do!

Just the basics — scissors, marker, bias tape, main front zipper, other half zippers from the feet and tail, sewing needle/thread, and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

A headbase ($150–200) — mine is a 3D printed base from FuzzButtFursuits. You can also find good resin head bases and other fursuit supplies from DreamVisionCreations.

Magnets & soft parts

Magnets used for the eyebrows are 10mm wide by 5mm thick, while the tongue magnets are 20mm wide by 3mm thick, both grade N45. I get mine from an online shop in NZ: DangerousMagnets.co.nz. Magnets of all sizes and strengths can be bought online (Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, AliExpress etc.) but some places lie about their strength, so read reviews first.

For soft tongue fabric, or even teeth/pads/nose:

The 1cm thick EVA foam is just a mat or yoga mat from my local shop, The Warehouse. K-Mart, Walmart or Hobby Lobby would sell them too.

Supplies

• Black elastic for the lip lining, 6mm wide — online or your local craft store ($2–5 small roll)
• 3D printed eye bases ($10) — bought from FuzzButtFursuits
• Buckram (mesh for the eyes) — online or at a craft shop, same goes for acrylic paint and clear coat spray
• Eyelid/eyebrow plastic — used from folders ($2–5)
• Flat metal — get creative and buy a roll or sheet from your local hardware store, plus tin snips for cutting it

Fan ($20–40) bought from DreamVisionCreations — available in battery pack or USB form. I prefer USB even though I used a battery version in this tutorial, but it doesn't overly matter, just personal preference! ^^
